2018 ARML INSTRUCTIONS
Dear Parent: Your child will be attending this year’s American Regional Mathematics League (ARML) Competition, as a member of the team from the Central Jersey Math League (CJML). Your child has qualified for this competition by participating in the CJML events this school year. To remain eligible for ARML, your child must attend at least three of five practice sessions, to be held at area high schools. Please check cjml.uzza.us (and click on the ARML tab), or uzza.us/cjml/arml.html for the date, time and location of the practices. The ARML competition involves an overnight trip, by bus, to State College, PA. Adult chaperones for the trip will be provided by CJML. Instructions follow. We will meet the bus at the Bridgewater Municipal Lot on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. The bus will stop at a fast-food restaurant for lunch. When we arrive at Penn State the students will settle into their dormitory rooms and then engage in various activities on campus until curfew. The competition starts early Saturday morning. Breakfast and lunch are provided. After an awards ceremony in the mid-afternoon, we will board the bus to depart. The bus will stop at a fast-food restaurant for dinner. We will arrive back in Bridgewater on Saturday evening. Penn State will house the students in dormitory rooms. Dorms will be supervised and all students must follow rules and procedures established by the coaches and ARML staff. These include curfew hours and appropriate behavior; infringement of either may be grounds for disqualification of a student and/or team. Ground rules will be fully discussed with students during practice sessions. Departure: Friday, June 1, 2018 at 10:00 A.M., at the Bridgewater Municipal Lot Return: Saturday, June 2, 2018, by about 9:30 p.m. Your child will contact you by cell phone from the bus to give you an estimated time of arrival. Please meet your child promptly. The chaperones will wait until every student has left. Bring: Snacks for the bus, money (for 2 or 3 meals, souvenirs), pillow, blanket, towels, personal items.
