One Year Later:

Reflection from September 11th

What are your feelings on September 11th now that one year has passed?

"I've been impressed with the creative response of the country.  Communities have pulled together in support of those who lost loved ones on 9/11 and people have shown an outpouring of moral and financial support.  Americans have written songs and plays, made quilts, organized reading and discussion groups.  We've responded to the tragedy creatively, in the American fashion." -Jonathan Stevens

"I think all the TV specials and media hype surrounding the anniversary is nauseating.  Why should we go outside and connect with other human beings when we could be good Americans and watch TV?"

"I feel a mixture of sorrow and hope.  The sorrow is deeper and more heart-wrenching than a year ago.  I know too many of the personal stories of loss now.  The hope is that we have all learned some important and life-changing lessons from the tragedy. -M. Higgins

"Osama Bin Laden thought he could bring down the United States.  Instead we fought back.  He didn't expect this.  He knows that when he goes against the United States, he doesn't have a chance." -Louis

'It's hard to believe it's been a year." - Eric

"Americans have looked closely at themselves this past year.  In the year to come Americans need to live in a way that allows the world to see America as it sees itself.  We export movies, music and violent headlines. We need to send our tolerance, our humanity, and our love for all children." -M. McGhee

"My feelings about the terrible tragedy that occurred exactly one year ago, are nothing but sadness and sorrow. Many lives were taken away last year, and left people with lost loved ones. It's just such a sad story and I wish something horrible like this won't happen again.  May those poor souls rest in peace." -Charlene Lanez

"My hope is that Americans will not forget the compassion they felt for their fellow countrymen after the attacks.  Because if we loose that, we run the risk of forgetting how important the people of our nation really are." -Anonymous
