Obituary
On April 17, 2004, Jacqueline Johnson Arrington passed away at home, surrounded by family in Hillsborough, New Jersey. Although born March 14, 1944 in Baltimore, Maryland, she fondly referred to Wax, North Carolina as "home". Growing up in Waxhaw, she graduated from Western Union High School. She continued her education by attending Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Sociology and Psychology.
Since 1968, Jacqueline has made Somerset, New Jersey her home. She received her Master of Social Work from Rutgers University and has been a credit to the Social Work profession for over 30 years. She concluded her career as a school social worker with the Metuchen Board of Education, where she made a positive impact on the lives of many students and faculty members.
Jacqueline was also very active in her community. She was a dedicated and devoted member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, Phi Eta Omega Chapter, National Association of Black Social Workers, National Association of Social Workers, Women's Investment Network, and Weidel Realtors. Not only was she active, Jackie, as she was known to many friends and family, was everyone's champion. She touched the lives of those with whom she came in contact, always willing to extend a helping hand or open her heart to those in need.
A member of the First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens, she proudly served on the Usher Board.
Jackie was also extremely dedicated to the success of her family. Jackie's family was always the driving force behind her undying strength and perseverance. Celebrating her life are her loving children LeShaun, Gayle, Angela and Dylan; her three grandchildren Brianna, Sierra and Vaughn; her "Mother in the Spirit" Edreal Kornegay; a very special "sister" friend Lenore Davis; her aunt and uncle, Ann Reed and Samuel Fulwood, Jr.; her three sisters Marie, Sarah and Cynthia; and many more family members, friends, colleagues and students.
Jackie was predeceased by her husband, Wharton Howard Arrington, mother Dorothy Johnson and sister Selena Johnson.
Jackie's strength and determination will continue on in the lives of everyone who has had the fortune to love, know and come in contact with "God's Angel on Earth." Our Father in Heaven said, "Jackie, it's time to come home, my good and faithful servant."
Submitted with Love,
