Our Justo Lamas Concert
After months of preparation by Sra. Dirmeitis, our school hosted a two hour concert by Justo Lamas, an Argentine rock singer. It took place on March 31, 2000. The Spanish Club was actively involved by preparing welcoming posters not only for Justo but also for the nine other schools that attended. They also served as ushers. Over 620 students from the following high schools were part of the enthusiastic audience:
Edgar
School from Metuchen
Indian
Hills H.S.
J.P.
Stevens H.S.
Marlboro H.S.
Monmouth
Regional H.S.
Monroe H.S.
North
Hunterdon H.S.
Parsippany H.S.
Princeton H.S.
Rutherford H.S.
Metuchen High Students who attended this performance as an in-house field trip did not have to pay for a bus like many of the other students did. Although Justo is touring throughout the United States for almost two months, we were the only high school in New Jersey where he performed.

Justo not only performed many great songs from his two CDs but also included "The Impossible Dream" from the play "Man of La Mancha." Students were invited to dance and sing along.

Two Metuchen students had special parts in the performance. Our fabulous soccer player Christine Scarfuto won a "Juggling" contest against a soccer player from Parsippany.

In addition since Justo always wants to allow talented students to sing with him, our Katie DeNicola did a duet with him.
After paying the expenses for the concert, the Spanish Club made a profit. Sra. Dirmeitis was able to award a scholarship to a senior who plans on continuing his/her study of Spanish in college. Melissa Piegaro (00) was the recipient. We hope to continue with this scholarship program for many years.

Our superintendent Ms. Sinatra
enjoyed the show immensely .
