A Nation Cries Shannon Warren
Everyone asks why…
But no one knows the answer…
All we know is many are lost.
Because of hatred, we were played.
Our freedom used against us,
Our freedom was used to hurt us.
Enemies laugh…Loved ones cry.
And we still sit here and ask why.
Our nation has come together to build pride,
And we’ll continue to strive…
To protect our freedom,
To protect our lives.

Untitled
Saumya Rachakonda
A tear stricken, a dirty face
Blended into the stone sidewalk
Cotton rags surround her skinny body
Sadness in her round eyes
Her hands are outstretched,
Wishing for a bit of food or money
From someone that can help her
Get back on her feet and start her life over
Someone to get her off of the old newspapers
That she lies her head on at night
Can’t anyone see or hear me? She wonders
Or are their eyes blind to misfortune
And their ears deaf to cries of help?
People walk past her without even a glance
And her wishes are shattered

Life Without an Answer
Desiree Kinney
Crashing,
falling down
sanity disappears.
Shaking,
turning
to those,
who are truly dear.
Breaths,
oh so deeply,
how is life going to change?
Standing up,
don’t ever leave my side.
Alive or not,
watching out for four.
Simplicity now broadened,
dust on your face.
A frown before,
a smile interrupted
hope forever guides.
Luck is short,
strength will overpower
and one is no longer one,
we are two.
Holding our hands,
sweet breaths
eyes that are closed.

Matthew’s Candle
Ann Marie Seidel
The candle by your mailbox,
So tiny but so bright,
Is swallowed in the darkness,
Surrounded by the night.
Its beacon always gleaming,
A brave and fearless soul,
It is a quiet lighthouse,
Where it leads me I shall go.
Fear’s a wasted emotion,
Faith an endless word,
The flame burns warm and clear,
For the crisis that has occurred.
If my strength should falter,
And hope is put to rest,
I’d be lost eternally,
On this endless quest.
This lighthouse out my window,
Shows peace for all at Sea,
Guiding those in despair,
Forever guiding me.
